A lot of people don't like big cities. That's totally fine! But, when you're in Athens and you need some of that island charm, there are a lot of great islands that are 30 minutes- 1.5 hours from Athens: making them the perfect day trips.
1. Aegina
Aegina. This island has everything you expect from a Greek island: clear water, sandy beaches, awesome architecture, and a long history. According to Greek myths, Zeus, king of the gods, liked a girl named Aegina. He wanted to talk to her in private, so he took her to this island. It bears her name even today. This amazing island is also famed for its pistachios. If you decide to come here, at the port, locals will be selling pistachio everything: ice cream, bars, milkshakes, and more.
2. Hydra
Hydra is one of those places. Those places that you never want to leave, not because you haven't done everything, but because there is practically nothing to do. It is especially popular with tourists and wealthy Athenians. It is about 1.5 hours from Athens, making it one of the furthest Saronic islands from Athens. But, one thing that draws most tourists here is that there are no cars on the island. I fact the most popular means of travel are by foot and by donkey.
3. Agistri
Agistri is a bundle of paradise located near Aegina. It has a population of just over 1,000. Many people like going to both Agistri and Aegina on the same day trip. Agistri is famous for its inland greenery and its coast side waters.
