There are so many different eye colors in the world. I'm going to list some of them.
1. Brown
An estimated 70% of the world has brown eyes. People with brown eyes are not affected by the sun as much because of the high amount of melanin in their irises.
2. Blue
About 8-10% of the world has blue eyes. There is research that all blue eyed people come from a common ancestor.
3. Hazel
About 5% of the world has hazel eyes. Hazel eyes usually are a mix of brown and green, making look a little yellow. The places where most people have it is North Africa, South America, and the Middle East.
4. Amber
Like hazel, about 5% of the world has amber eyes. The color comes from a yellow pigment, lipochrome. Amber eyes are more common in animals, like cats, than humans.
5. Gray
About 3% of the world has gray eyes. Often times, gray eyes are confused with blue eyes, but studies show that people with gray eyes actually have less melanin than people with blue eyes.
6. Green
About 2% of the world has green eyes. Green eyes mostly come from Northern Europe. Green eyes also have lipochrome in them.
7. Purple
Purple eyes are caused by severe forms of albinism. These people have so little melanin that their blood vessels show through.
8. Red
Red eyes, like purple, are caused by severe forms of albinism when the blood vessels show through.
Others: There are eyes with two colors in one eye, or eyes with each eye in a different color.
